(Copyright - Mark and Jody McNulty)The Tabernacle of God in the Wilderness was a tent like structure, designed to be dismantled and moved to the next destination, as the people traveled to the promised land. God gave the design to Moses in Exodus 25:8-9.
"And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it."
Solomon's Temple.
David desired to build a permanent temple to the Lord but was prevented from doing so. God told him in 1Chronicles 28:6,
"And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father."
The Second Temple.
When the people returned from captivity in Babylon they rebuilt the temple. This took 49 years to do, this figure being important because it identifies the period of time for the prophecy in Daniel 9:25 to occur. Seven weeks to rebuild the temple. 1 week = 7 years (or 1 day = 1 year). This allows us to calculate the time when the Messiah would appear in Jerusalem. 7 weeks plus 62 weeks = 483 years. This was when Christ appeared (Christ's baptism) and then He was crucified inthe midst of the seventieth week. This leaves a half week (3.5 years) still to occur to the Jews.
It must be mentioned that the scriptures said (Daniel 9:25),
"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times."
There were 4 decrees, three to rebuild the Temple (Ezra 6:14), and the fourth to rebuild Jerusalem (Neh 2:7). It is the fourth one that the prophecy applies to.
Herod's Temple.
Model of Herods Temple. Circa 30ad.Herod added to the Second Temple. This allowed it to be restored to the original height, as made by Solomon.
God's Dwelling place today.
In Acts Chapter 2, there is an event recorded, where God ( The Holy Ghost ) came in the form of "Tongues of Fire", and rested on the head of each believer. To the Christian this is known as the "Baptism of the Holy Ghost". It is for every single believer, as Peter said in Acts 2:38,
"Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost."

The Temple in Jerusalem had an outer court, a holy place, and the holy of holies where the High Priest entered once a year, with the Blood of atonement for the sins of the people. The temple structure represents a human being, with body (outer court), spirit (holy place), and the holy of holies (soul) where the shekinah glory of God dwells, and where the ark of the covenant resides (the word of God).
Many people claim to be Christians, but have never had a High Priest (Jesus Christ) enter with atoning blood.
Many Christians have an up and down experience - like the light in the outer court (Day and night). Some have entered the holy place, (life in the church) - a constant light but artificial, from the golden candlestick (represents seven church ages). But they have not entered in behind the vail where the light is the presence of God.
Pillar of Fire.
The major difference between Judaism and then Christianity, from all other religions, is the presence of the "Shekinah" Glory of God - The Pillar of Fire.
God led His people, Israel, by a Pillar of Fire during the night, and a Pillar of Cloud by day. That must have been a glorious sight. The interesting thing is that while it gave light to Israel, it was intense darkness to their enemies. When Elijah offered a sacrifice on Mt Carmel, God answered his prayer by fire.
When Elijah's time was finished on Earth, he was caught up by Chariots of Fire.
When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain his face and garments were shining bright.
Paul met the Lord on the Damascus road, a bright shining light. He said "Who are you Lord?", "I am Jesus" came the reply.
The Pillar of Fire - Houston 1950
William Branham. In Houston, Texas in January 1950, an amazing photograph was taken by the Douglas Studios. In the photograph there appeared a light above the head of Brother Branham in a halo like form. The negative was examined by George J. Lacy who was the examiner of questioned documents, in order to determine whether or nor the light could have been the result of improper exposure, developing or retouching. The investigation served to completely authenticate the fact the the brightness was caused by light striking the negative. This picture has hung in the Hall of Religious art in Washington DC, as the only supernatural being ever photographed.
Luke 7:26-27,
26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.Download 53-0509 Pillar of Fire. - William Branham
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
