The Daniel Prophecies 3.
Book of Nehimiah.
Rebuilding of Jerusalem.
Artaxerxes, understanding the cause of Nehemiah's sadness, sends him with letters and a commission to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.
Nehemiah comes to Jerusalem, and views secretly the ruins of the walls. (Nehemiah 2:12...,)
He encourages the Jews to build.
Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
While the enemies scoff, Nehemiah prays and continues the work.
But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
Understanding the anger of the enemy, he sets a watch.
But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,
Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
He arms the labourers.
And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
The walls are completed.
Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
Rebuilding of houses is to start.
Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
Daniel 9. The coming Messiah.
Start of the 70 Weeks of Daniel.
To determine when the Messiah would appear in Jerusalem, we need to know the start date of the 70 week period. There were three decrees to rebuild the Temple at Jerusalem, (Ezra 6:14), but only one decree to rebuild Jerusalem. Nehemiah chapter 2 tells us this decree was in the 20th year of the reign of Ahasuerus.
The Daniel 9:25 prophecy, showed exactly when the Messiah would appear (Christ's Baptism - was when he became "the Annointed one") in Jerusalem - after 7 weeks plus 62 weeks (1 day = 1 year). The leaders of that day, however, refused to receive him when he arrived. He was cut off in the midst of the seventieth week, fulfilling the scripture of Daniel 9.
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
