Resurrection. - Some Scriptures.

David Shearer.

Prophecy of Resurrection.

Acts 2:25-27.
For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Acts 2:31.
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Jesus fortells His own resurrection.

Matthew 16:21
From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Matthew 17:22-23
And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

Luke 9:22
Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

Mark 9:9
And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

Disbelievers question Jesus...

Matthew 22:23,28.
The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him... Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

Jesus answer to them...

Matthew 22:30-32.
For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Luke 20:37.
Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

The result of Unbelief.

Luke 16:31.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Disciples are witnesses of the resurrection.

Acts 1:22.
Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Acts 2:30-33.
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Acts 17:32.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

Paul believed in the Resurrection.

Acts 23:6.
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

Acts 23:8.
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

Paul’s testimony to Felix.

Acts 24:21.
Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

It is part of the Gospel.

Luke 7:15.
And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

Matthew 11:5.
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Luke 7:22.
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

Acts 4:2.
Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

Acts 4:33.
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

Acts 17:18-19.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

It is proof of the Deity of Jesus.

Romans 1:4.
And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

Acts 2:24.
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

It is our hope...

Romans 6:5.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Acts 24:15.
And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

1 Peter 1:3.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

If there is no resurrection then faith is vain.

1 Corinthians 15:12-13.
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

1 Corinthians 15:16-19.
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Original sin is the reason why Christ was raised.

1 Corinthians 15:21.
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:42-43.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

Paul’s Desire...

Philippians 3:10-11.
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

The resurrection is a principle doctrine.

Hebrews 6:1-3.
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit.

Resurrection happened in the past.

Hebrews 11:35.
Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

Matthew 27:52-53.
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Martha believed in the Resurrection.

John 11:24-27.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

Lazarus raised before witnesses...

John 12:1.
Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

John 12:9.
Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

John 12:17.
The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

Baptism represents Resurrection.

1 Peter 3:21.
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Resurrection - a future event.

2 Timothy 2:18.
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

Rewards at the Resurrection.

Luke 14:14.
And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Luke 20:35-36.
But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

John 5:29.
And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

2 General Resurrections.

Revelation 20:5-6.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
